A Walk in the Clouds

Winter evenings are great times to watch some of the old movies over and over again; Especially if those films appeal to us wine lovers 🍷🎬 If you haven’t seen it before, here are the details: A Walk in the Clouds 1995 is a romantic and drama film directed by Alfonso Arau, produced in the USA and Mexico. The lives of Paul (Keanu Reeves) and Victoria (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) intersect after a small and innocent accident on a train ride. Victoria left her family to pursue her master’s degree, but on her way back from where she was going, she was pregnant and doesn’t know what to say to her family. She is particularly afraid of her father, Alberto (Giancarlo Giannini). Paul introduces himself as Victoria’s husband for a while and thinks that if he leaves the house the next day, the problem can be solved. When they go home, all hell breaks out, the father opposes this unannounced marriage, but grandfather Don Pedro Aragon (Anthony Quinn) accepts the son-in-law and even tries not to leave. This house game, which starts as a plan, turns into a romantic relationship.
🍷
The Aragon family is a noble family and a master wine producer in California’s Napa valley. On the first night of Paul’s stay, frost threatens in the family’s vineyards, and at midnight all the households try to save the clusters from frost by burning stoves in the vineyards. Then comes the harvest time and the grapes are picked. Paul has always been with them like a true member of the family. It is not difficult to predict the ending of the movie, but still there are surprises in the final scenes. The scenes where they try to protect the vines from frost, the harvest festivities, especially the scenes where the grapes are crushed by the women with dances, and the scene where the priest prayed for wine in the town square are the scenes that we enjoy as a wine lover. The finale of the movie is also quite impressive. Have a good time 🍷😊

It is a movie that you can have a nice time while watching, with actors such as Keanu Reeves, Anthony Quinn, Debra Messing, Freddy Rodriguez, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. Paul Sutton (Keanu Reeves) is a soldier who married and participated in World War II. He wrote letters to his wife for 4 years, but his wife Betty Sutton (Debra Messing) collected the letters after a while without reading them. Paul cannot see his wife in the harbor the day he returns home, and when he goes home he learns that his wife has not read the letters and therefore does not know that he is coming. Victoria had some job interviews and arranged for Paul to work as a chocolate salesman. Paul grabs his bag of chocolate in the morning, gets on the train and sets out to sell. In fact, this is the day he left his home emotionally. Her dream house and spouse don’t match reality.

On a train journey, they meet a young woman named Victoria (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) as a result of a small and innocent accident. When they meet again on the bus, Paul sees two punks harassing Victoria and saves her from these two abusers. Neither of them knew how these encounters and events would affect their fate.

Back to Burgundy

Movie recommendation for wine lovers 🍷 Back to Burgundy (Ce Qui Nous Lie) A cute movie about the relationships of a wine-producing family in Burgundy, with lots of vineyards, wineries and harvest scenes. Ten years ago, Jean left his father’s house and realized his dream of traveling the world. He returns home upon his father’s illness. He will try to restore the broken family ties with his brothers Juliette and Jérémie. After their father died, the vineyards and the winery remained for 3 brothers. Harvest time has also come. Their relationships also flourish, just like the vines that turn green in the spring while they take care of their family heirloom together.

An emotional movie that everyone who is passionate about wine will enjoy and will have a good time. The state of the vineyards during seasonal transitions, harvest time and vintage festival, winery and tasting scenes are worth seeing. Have a good time 🍷😊

Sour Grapes

Documentary recommendation for wine lovers 🍷 Sour Grapes is a quality production that tells about how a so-called wine connoisseur is defrauding the markets. Rudy Kurniawan (real name Zhen Wang Huang) entered the market as a 30-year-old collector and wine expert in 2006, earning the trust of many people by making serious purchases. His sudden appearance at a young age and the collection of expensive wines attracts everyone’s attention. He makes many famous friends; his friends describe him as a person with a very good palate and serious knowledge about the world of wine. However, US collector Bill Koch and Burgundy winemaker Laurent Ponsot suspect some bottles in the catalogs prepared for the auction and go after the business, and an investigation begins that will shock the wine world.

The Secret of Santa Vittoria

“The blood of our labor” … A people whose livelihood is wine could not define the product of their labor better. The 1969 Town’s Secret, starring Anthony Quinn, is one of the movies that wine lovers should watch. It is worth seeing the efforts of the people living in the Italian town of Santa Vittoria in the last period of the Second World War to carry 1 million bottles of wine from hand to hand in a cave and hide it from German soldiers. Do not forget to watch this beautiful movie, which is knitted with quite entertaining and touching scenes at the same time.

The Town’s Secret is a beautiful comedy set in Italy in the last days of World War II. Made in the USA in 1969, the original title of the film is The Secret of Santa Vittoria. The town of Santa Vittoria in Italy is famous for its viticulture and wines. The film tells the tragicomic story of the townspeople hiding 1 million bottles of wine from German soldiers.

Based on the novel written by American novelist Robert Crichton in 1966, the film is directed by Stanley Kramer and starring Anthony Quinn.

The film was nominated for Oscars for best editing and best original music in 1970, and won the Golden Globe for best musical film.

The film takes place in the Italian town of Santa Vittoria in the late World War II. The livelihood of this charming town is the wine they produce. The administration of the town is in the hands of the fascists. One day, a young man named Fabio comes to the town square and announces that Mussolini is dead and that Fascism is now over. The townspeople don’t react first, but then they start celebrating. Italo Bombolini (Anthony Quinn), who sells wine and owns a winery in the town, has supported Mussolini like many other townspeople, and even climbed into a water tank and wrote a eulogy. Disappointed by the practices of the fascist government, Bombolini gets drunk (often seen as the town’s drunkard and buffoon) and climbs into the water tank and wants to erase the writing, but is stranded exhausted. His wife is fed up with Bombolini and doesn’t care if it falls out of the warehouse. A young man named Fabio climbs into the water tank to bring Bombolini down from above, erases the writing, and encourages Bombolini to try to bring him down together. Meanwhile, the people watch those who have gathered. Fabio encourages Bombolini by making the public shout “Viva Bombolini”.

On the one hand, the fascist rulers are fearfully pondering what to do. Meanwhile, they misunderstand the people’s coming together and shouting slogans as “Viva Bombolini”; they think that the people have chosen Bombolini as their mayor and they go and hand over the mayor of Bombolini. However, everyone knows that Bombolini is a useless drunkard. His wife even kicks Bombolini out of the house.

The German armies, which retreated after quiet days, began to temporarily occupy the towns on their way and confiscate the property of the townspeople to cover the costs of the war. Bad news reaches Santa Vittoria. The Germans are on their way to confiscate the wines. The town has 1 million bottles of wine stacked in the cellar. Bombolini and his friends decide to give some wine to the Germans and keep most of it. The whole town mobilized to transport the wines to a Roman cave, and they carried the bottles day and night to this ancient cave. They use the tunnels in the cave to store the wines and build a wall at their entrance to make the cave seem empty.

Germans arrive in town, led by Captain von Prum (Hardy Krüger). In fact, he doesn’t treat the townspeople badly, he just tells them they want the inventory and the wine. Bombolini throws himself off the ground, negotiating the Captain for less than the 300,000 bottles they reserved for the Germans. Meanwhile, an SS officer comes and says there must be 1,000,000 bottles in town. The SS officer came with officials from the Cinzano Vermouth factory. The lie is about to be revealed. The Germans search everywhere but get no result; they even torture two people from the public, yet they cannot learn the truth. The SS officer believes that there are not 1,000,000 bottles of wine in town and leaves. But Captain von Prum realizes that he has been made a fool of himself and seeks the truth.

Meanwhile, an order to withdraw from the center comes, but Captain von Prum wants to try his luck for the last time and puts a gun to Bombolini’s head in front of the public in the town square. Nobody makes a sound. The captain says he doesn’t want the wines either, he just wants to know the truth, but in vain. He shouts, “What kind of people are you,” and realizes that he cannot learn the truth. Bombolini buys a bottle of wine and presents it to the Captain. Bombolini does not neglect to say, “Where this came from, there are 1,000,000 more bottles.” In this way, the Germans leave the town. The secret of the town has been preserved.

It is a film that wine lovers can watch without hesitation. There are very entertaining, but also touching scenes. The scenes in which the bottles were transported from hand to hand into the cave were the scenes that left their mark on the film. In one scene, the term “blood of our labor” was used for wine. The definition of wine by a people whose livelihood is wine was very impressive.

Big Night

Two brothers Primo and Secondo, who are talented in Italian cuisine, open an Italian restaurant in America. Primo is a traditional and highly respectful cook. For him, the eating habits and demands of Americans are absolutely unacceptable. Secondo, on the other hand, is someone who tries to keep the restaurant afloat, believing that sometimes compromises are necessary. He both goes into the kitchen and deals with the financial affairs of the restaurant. When things don’t go so well, they plan a special night on recommendation. Primo prepares the best menu for tonight. Special guests and special meals… I think this much information is enough for those who have not watched the movie.

A fun movie to watch for a nice evening. The soundtrack is very good, you will love the food in the movie, you want to go to an Italian restaurant.

The Hundred-Foot Journey

Recipe of Love is the story of an Indian family who came to a town in France from India to open a restaurant and survive. The venue they found to open a restaurant is just across the road, 100 steps from the prestigious restaurant of the region, Le Saule Pleureur. Le Saule Pleureur is a Michelin Star business and is after the second star. Madame Mallory dismisses this Indian family’s restaurant and Indian cuisine. Hassan Haji is not a cook to be underestimated.

A movie that anyone interested in gastronomy will enjoy watching. Traditionalists generally have a struggle against molecular cuisine in the films I have watched on these topics recently.

Chef

The dramatic comedy is the story of a chef named Carl Casper, who works as a head chef in a fancy restaurant. The owner of the restaurant is closed and assuring about innovations. Carl, on the other hand, is tired of repeating the same things and wants to reflect his creativity on the menu. When a famous gourmet comes across the same menu, he criticizes it heavily. Things get messy when Carl responds heavily on social media, thinking that only the famous gourmet will see his message. Carl from his job buys an old caravan and starts from scratch with his son and a friend. It’s a fun 2014 movie. The scenes where she cooks are appetizing.

Comme Un Chef

Jacky Bonnot is a young but talented cook. He works in small places to make money, not where his talent and creativity demands. His life changes when he takes a job in the kitchen of a great star chef, Alexandre La Garde. La Garde is after the second star and it is traditional. The menu he prepared as a master is indisputable. Jacky Bonnot, on the other hand, cannot behave in these matters. Again in this film, there is war / conflict between molecular cuisine and traditional cuisine. It is a subject that has recently been covered in films about food. Traditionalists repeat itself, while molecular cuisine is full of extreme examples. In this sense, we can say that it is an enjoyable movie to watch.

A Good Year

Max Skinner is a famous and ruthless stockbroker in London who makes money by speculating. After a great success, he receives the news that his uncle has passed away. Max goes to France for inheritance procedures. A castle and vineyard remained from his uncle who produced wine in the Provence region. Of course, the first thing such a stockbroker will think about is how much the castle will cost. This journey will change Max’s life. Because childhood memories come alive in the castle, vineyard and cellar. He spent the best summers of his life with his uncle, but in recent years, his relationship has been severed due to his lifestyle and he has never called his uncle in the last 10 years.

It is a movie full of love, drama, sadness, comedy and romance that can be watched more than once. The scenes that take place in the cellar, vineyard, and wine are magnificent.

French Kiss

Charlie and Kate are a couple in love. Because Kate has a fear of flying, she cannot go to Paris with Charlie. This short-term separation will bring their relationship to a breaking point, as Charlie Fras falls in love with your beautiful, Juliette, and decides to marry her. Kate is devastated, but to get her boyfriend back, she takes a plane and sets off for Paris. A thief named Luc sits next to him on the floor. Luc and Kate’s adventure has begun. Luc is a thief and wants to achieve his goal using Kate.

Luc’s family is a family that has ties and makes wine in France. Luc transferred his shares to his brother in an unfortunate game of poker. Luc’s dream is to buy a vineyard and produce fine wines.

An entertaining 1995 Meg Ryan (Kate) movie. Kevin Kline (Luc) also did a very successful role. The scenes with the vineyards and especially the scene where Luc tells Kate about the fragrance sets and the aromas of the wine were pleasant.

Sideways

Is it necessary to open a special wine on a special day or is it a special day when that special wine is opened?
Sideways is a movie in the category of “comedy, romance, drama”, but what interested me was that it was a movie about wine. It can also be called a kind of PR work for the California wines of the USA. It is certain that they are trying to establish a history of wine and viticulture. I cannot say it is a bad movie, I can even say it is fun, it is a movie that wine lovers can watch because wine is involved.
Miles Raymond is a divorced English teacher and a wine lover. His biggest dream is to be a writer and he is waiting for his book to be published. His close friend Jack is an actor and is about to get married. Jack has a week to get married and they go on a journey together to say goodbye to bachelorhood. Miles has planned a trip where they will visit the vineyards of California, taste wine, have a good time together and play golf. This journey comes to a point that will change their lives.

No Reservations

Kate (CATHERINE ZETA JONES), the head chef of a Manhattan restaurant, is a nice but lonely beautiful woman who is a hard worker, a perfectionist, and puts her job at the center of her life. She is so busy getting up at 4:30 in the morning and going to the fish market for fresh produce in person. She is a structure that does not admit mistakes in the kitchen, and she does not accept the criticism from customers. She comes out of the kitchen when there are customers who send the food back for a reason, to show their place or to see her to congratulate and meet her.

One day, her sister and her 9-year-old nephew Zoe set out to visit Kate, but there is a traffic accident on the way and the sister dies. Zoe is now in Kate’s life. His life has to change. Meanwhile, an Italian man named Nick (AARON ECKHART), who has risen in his profession in the absence of the restaurant’s owner, Kate, receives the opening. Nick is cheerful and more relaxed. He has a working mentality that sings opera while working in the kitchen and makes him work by making him laugh, that is, it does not fit into Kate’s order. When Kate returns to work, she is surprised and upset when she sees such a person. He even sees her as someone who will take his place. So Kate treats Nick cold and keeps him away. But 9-year-old Zoe comes to the restaurant one day and they get along well with Nick. Seeing this, Kate’s view of Nick changes.

The rapprochement between Kate and Nick is inevitable. There are scenes that illustrate the flirting of two master cooks over food and wine. Actually, I wish there was more wine in the movie, the whole movie is about cuisine and food. But if we take into account that Nick’s character is an Italian and that he learned all his vocational education by traveling around Italy, it would be very nice to include Italian wines in the film.

Translated into Turkish as “Recipe for Love”, this movie is quite entertaining and worth watching. Lots of romance, drama, comedy. I think romance could have been a little bit more.

Bottle Shock Paris Delusion

Bottle Shock is the true story of a contest held in Paris in 1976, where American and French wines were evaluated by blind tasting. This event was recorded as “The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976” or “The Judgment of Paris”.

Paris-based Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) is an Englishman who believes French wines are the best in the world. In 1973, he opened France’s first wine school with the name “Academie du Vin”. Steven comes up with a competition when a friend tells him that California wines may soon rival French ones. There will be a competition of American and French wines and blind tasting will be done. For this, he first met with important names of France in the field of wine. (I have given the list of jury members below.)

Steven begins touring vineyards in the California area. Its aim is to choose the best wines of this region for the competition and bring them to France. Many things unexpectedly develop on this journey. When he tells American winemakers about such a competition, many of them want Steven to taste their wine so that the wine enters the competition. Jim Barrett, owner of the Chateau Montelena, who will come first in this contest, is cold to Steven and even does not want to give his wine. Barret thinks this arrogant Frenchman is holding a contest to make fun of the Americans and their wine. Barret’s son Bo does not think like his father. Bo gives it to Steven from “1973 Chardonnay”, unaware of his father.

The airport scene is also quite interesting. According to federal rules, a passenger can carry 1 bottle with him. But Steven has 12 bottles with him. When the attendant refuses, Steven tells the passengers who are waiting behind him about the competition he will organize and asks if they can carry the wines for him. When the passengers accept, they bring wines to France in this way.

On May 24, 1976, the competition to be held in the form of blind tasting begins. In the meantime, although there is a blind tasting, the jury knows that they will make a judgment between American and French wines. You will taste 20 wines from Chardonnay in white wine and Cabernet Sauvignon in red. The press does not show interest in this contest, only George Taber, the Paris correspondent of Time magazine, participates. American wines come first in the competition. This shocks the French. Time reporter Taber, who attends the tasting, is astonished to see how the judges, known as masters, were wrong in distinguishing wines.

However, the results of this competition organized by Steven lead to the formation of a serious wine industry that can produce world-class quality in countries such as Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Chile, as well as the USA.

30 years later, Steven Spurrier again organizes a competition to commemorate the 1976 Paris Tasting, and California wines again take first place.

Although this film does not have an artistic feature, it should be watched in order to process an important event for the wine world. Still, I couldn’t help thinking that this incident should have been told much better at the end of the movie.

Woman on Top

Woman on Top is a 2000 fantasy comedy and also a movie in the romantic comedy category. It doesn’t have an artistic side, but it can be called a fun movie. Penelope Cruz is way ahead of both the other actors and the script with all her beauty. Penelope Cruz fans can ignore the lightness of this movie as they will be watching the beautiful and sexy actress.

Isabella (Penelope Cruz) is a very beautiful young woman. She has a disease that started in her childhood. Known as motion sickness, the disease manifests itself at every moment of his life. It can also be called a kind of motion sickness. If he drives a vehicle himself, if he directs the dance himself rather than his male partner, even if he is at the top while making love and manages his own situation, he does not have any problems. Her family prayed to the ocean goddess named Yemenja for help to get Isabella out of this trouble. Yemenja doesn’t solve Isabella’s problem, but as a consolation she gives the little girl the ability to cook well. While her peers play, Isabella learns to cook in the kitchen. Isabella’s aim is to be a good chef and to be known around the world, but she married Toninho, whom she fell in love with at first sight, and she lost the chance to open up to the world. She works in the kitchen at the restaurant they opened with She Toninho and cannot use her potential.

One day, he raids Toninho with his upstairs neighbor and leaves the house. She goes to San Francisco with a friend. She meets the person who will change her life completely and starts making a cooking show. She is suddenly intrigued by the country. Of course, she is very attractive from her food. Toninho regrets and sets out to win his wife back.

Waitress

It is a romantic-drama type of film about the unhappy marriage of Jenna, to get rid of her husband, to be free and happy. Jenna is under heavy pressure from her sickly husband, Sisto. Thanks to her special talent, Jenna can make beautiful and different pies. For her, the kitchen is a shelter from her husband’s pressure. Jenna has become such that she’s always on her mind to make a new pie. She starts to save money to get rid of her husband, while she learns that she is pregnant and gets closer to her doctor. Something will start to change in your life now.

I can’t say the movie was boring, but it was a bit calm. It focused more on a problematic husband-wife relationship. The kitchen scenes are a little bit in the background. The scenes where the pies are made are quite successful though. A movie for those who love to make pies. At the end of the movie, there is a feeling that I can try to make pies.

Eat Pray Love

Based on the book written by Elizabeth Gilbert based on her own life, the film is directed and written by Ryan Murphy. Oscar winner Julia Roberts, who portrays the popular US writer Elizabeth Gilbert. There are also important names like Javier Bardem and Richard Jenkins. The movie was released in August 2010 with the title “Eat Pray Love” .

During a visit to Bali, Elizabeth has an old man named Ketut do palmistry. Ketut tells him that he will marry twice, lose all his assets, but win again. He also says that he will come back to Bali and see him again. Elizabeth finds the old man cute and sees fortune telling as a touristic pastime. But over the years, Ketut’s prophecies come true. Elizabeth makes her first marriage, seems happy but not happy with her life. She tells that she wants to leave her husband one night. It will not be easy to break up with her husband, because there are no obvious problems in their relationship. Elizabeth actually has problems with herself. She tries to overcome this emptiness that she cannot understand by falling in love with someone named David Piccolo. But this time, David can’t fully concentrate on the relationship. After a while, the breaks start to cool. In this relationship, Elizabeth meets the teachings of an Indian guru, of whom David follows. The Guru himself is in India.

Elizabeth now decides to look for herself, meet the Guru, and finally go to Bali to see Ketut. She will first travel to Italy she. He keeps a room with an old Italian woman in Rome, makes new friends, and starts learning Italian. Italian food and Roman lifestyle affect him a lot. Its second stop is India. He cannot see the Guru, but remains in the ashram, serving, meditating. But he can not get rid of his inner troubles, he is struggling with his existential problems. Richard of Texas is one of the ashram survivors and takes care of Elizabeth. It shows him that there is a way to forgive himself. The third and final stop is Bali, that is, next to Ketut. Here he meets a tour guide named Felipe (Javier Bardem) and a romance begins between them.

The movie is a romantic-drama genre, not a comedy, but some of the scenes are quite funny. Frankly, the scenes that took place in Italy were very fun. The joyful lifestyle of Italians makes a depressed person come alive and cheer up. The scenes shot in Rome impressed me as a fan of Italy. Especially the scene where Elizabeth eats pasta with sauce in a restaurant alone, in spite of the American diet, was very good. It was very nice that they went to Naples for Margherita Pizza with friends they had made in Rome, then attended a family dinner in Tuscany. Of course, wines are always drunk in these meals. Obviously, one immediately comes to Rome to buy tickets. The film is not a food-drink-wine-themed film, but in the section where the Italian lifestyle is emphasized, food and wine are treated as indispensable elements.

Burnt (Cooked Too) is a US-made comedy-drama movie that was released in 2015. We watched such great movies in 2015. For other movies, see. You will see lots of appetizing food scenes in this movie as well. You should definitely watch this movie if you want to have a fun 90 minutes full of beautiful scenes where you can see that cooking special meals requires a special talent, and most importantly, how a team works in the kitchen.

Bradley Cooper is accompanied by Sienna Miller, Omar Sy, Daniel Brühl, Matthew Rhys, Alicia Vikander, Uma Thurman and Emma Thompson in the film, where we watch the story of a two-Michelin-star chef named Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) trying to get three stars.

Adam is a chef who has achieved his present success step by step starting from his childhood. The legendary name Jean Luc raised the man and many successful chefs like him. The man worked at Jean Luc’s restaurant in Paris, but his use of drugs, his angry behavior and obsession with excellence created serious problems in his and his teammates’ careers. The restaurant closed and Jean Luc died.

The man goes to work in New Orleans to get rid of his mistakes, most importantly drugs, and sets himself an extreme goal; the goal is to extract 1 million oysters. Thus, it is both cleared of drugs and disciplined to his mind and body. Once he has weeded out the 1 millionth oyster, it’s time to act. He settled in a hotel in London and started working to set up his team. Tony (Daniel Brühl), the owner of the hotel he lives in, is Adam’s old friend and is also in love with Adam. Knowing his weakness, the man convinces Tony and they start preparing the hotel restaurant to get the third Michelin star.

Adam runs into his friend Michel (Omar Sy), with whom he had worked for a while in Paris but had a serious stake in the rivalry, and recruited him. He will later realize how big a mistake he made. Another talented chef adds Helene (Sienna Miller) to the team. The relationship between beautiful chef Helene and Adam begins badly, but later they get closer. It’s time for the opening of the restaurant. The opening day ends in a fiasco. The man is very grumpy and angry in the kitchen. If an order is not properly prepared, that plate should be discarded and prepared again and correctly, even if there is a delay.

I did not want to tell the episodes about the Michelin star inspectors in order not to spoil the surprise of the movie. Burnt is a movie that should not be missed by those who love food-themed movies. The kitchen scenes are very successful, especially how a team works and how stressful the environment is in the kitchen.

Foodies

In the 2014 documentary directed by Thomas Jackson and Charlotte Landelius, we watch famous bloggers (gourmets) visit luxury restaurants with Michelin Stars. There are those who have been doing this for a long time, and new beginners as well. It is obvious that they do their job passionately but also to gain prestige. You can see the final stage of the famous food critic Andy Hayler’s plan to evaluate all 3-star restaurants in this documentary. The story of how new blogger and gourmet candidate Katie Keiko saved money and made restaurant visits may also attract the attention of new bloggers or gourmet candidates in our country. It is also noteworthy that Katie Keiko was a blogger for about 4 years when the documentary was shot in 2014, but she was conscious of herself as inexperienced and apprentice among others. A documentary that those interested in the world of gastronomy can enjoy watching.

Somm

Somm is a documentary shot by Jason Wise in 2012 about the Master Sommelier exams of 4 professional sommeliers. The Master Sommelier exam is known as the most prestigious exam in the world, the content of which is kept secret and the hardest exam. The first Master Sommeliers exam was held in England in 1969 and as of 2016, 236 people have achieved the title of Master Sommelier all over the world.

The main characters of the film are Ian Cauble, Dustin Wilson, Dlynn Proctor and Brian McClintic. In this documentary, where you can see how they prepared for the exam, their relationship with each other and how their families felt during this process, you experience the excitement of the exam with them. The exam consists of service, theory and tasting stages. Legendary names such as Fred Dame, Jay Fletcher and Andrea Cecci mentor their preparation for candidates.

When it’s time for the exam, the excitement gets even higher. Since the content of these exams is confidential, we cannot monitor the exam stages, but after witnessing the effort they put into getting this title, you want all of them to pass the exam. A movie that should not be missed by those who want to get to know the world of wine.

Uncorked

The movie called My Father’s Kitchen (Uncorked), which is broadcast on Netflix, is based on the emotional story of a young man with a passion for wine. Elijah (Mamoudou Athie) works both in a wine shop and the barbecue restaurant that his grandfather founded, now owned by his father. Father Louis learned the business from his own father, so he wants to teach his son the family business and hand over the business. But Elijah aspires to advance his passion for wine and become a Master Sommelier. While the mother supports her son in this regard, the father asks her son to take over the family business and give up empty dreams. Elijah gets into a very difficult fight.

A movie that wine lovers can enjoy.

Sweet Bean

Sentaro is a young man who buys and sells dorayaki in his little shop. Dorayaki is a Japanese dessert made with red bean paste called “An” in Japanese. Our hero, Sentaro, is not very happy with what he is actually doing, but he cannot quit because of his debt to the shopkeeper. One day, Tokue, an old woman who comes and goes to the shop several times, asks Sentaro for a job. Tokue, who is old and has a crippled hands, is not a suitable helper for Sentaro and his request is denied. The next day, Tokue returns with a bowl of sweet bean paste in hand. Sentaro is astounded when he tastes the bean paste that the old woman left behind and hires Tokue, albeit reluctantly at first. Tokue reveals such a delicious crush with a skill and wisdom that cannot be expected from their crippled hands that the reputation of the dorayak people the duo made spreads all over. But when the story behind Tokue’s sick hands spreads from ear to ear, nothing will ever be the same.

The film explores in a very simple, humane and ingenious way that we, as mostly impatient people, have a lot to learn from nature, and that we need to enjoy every moment in life, even when experiencing illness, poverty, or other problems. It shows that even our sensory experiences can lead us to richer and deeper lives. Tokue’s patient and wise attitude, especially while cooking beans, approaching them not only as food but as a gift of nature, and even the relationship he has with beans is worth watching with admiration. Especially when he says “Everyone in this world has a story to tell” by referring to them, it gives a clue how different we can approach even what we eat. In the background, the story of his illness that leaves him to live away from people hurts.

In short, you will definitely not regret watching this beautiful movie in which the concepts of friendship, hope, humanity and patience are flavored with delicious touches.
